Cooking Halibut On The BBQ Is A Summertime Favorite

Learning to make halibut on the bbq can be an adventure in cooking or it can be a presentation of elegance. When grilling any meat on the bbq it is important to understand how your personal bbq works, understand how the type of meat that you are cooking responds when cooked on a grill and you must be familiar with the recipe that is being cooked. It is knowing the correct answers to these three steps that will be key to successful cooking on any type of grill.

Find Your Favorite Halibut Recipe Before Cooking It On Your Grill

Halibut is hearty white fish meat. It is often expensive but when cooked correctly, it is well worth the added expense. One of my favorite recipes for cooking halibut on the bbq is Halibut Veracruz. This recipe is different for everyone that cooks it, although the basic ingredients remain consistent for most recipes. The basic ingredients for cooking Halibut Veracruz on the bbq are halibut, tomatoes, green chilies, garlic and fresh oregano and thyme. The amount of the ingredients varies according to the number of halibut fillets that are to be cooked on the bbq

Foil Wraps Provide Valuable Cooking Tool When Grilling

A popular method for cooking halibut on the bbq is to use a foil wrap. In a situation like cooking Halibut Veracruz, it really is a good idea to use the foil packets for the food preparation. As the recipe requires the halibut to be covered in the sauce created by the combination of the other ingredients, not using the foil packets would require the use of an aluminum baking sheet or 9”x 13” baking pan. Remember to seal the foil all the way around the halibut fillet, as you do not want to lose all of the cooking juices during the grilling time.

This recipe is very easy to make and when using the foil packets, clean up is a snap. As you begin to combine the ingredients, be sure to measure the thickness of your halibut fillet. The thickness of the halibut being grilled on the bbq will determine the cooking time for the entrée.

Make Sure You Don’t Overcook Halibut On The BBQ

It is best to allow 4 to 6 minutes per ½ -inch thickness of the fillet for total grilling time. When checking the foil packets to determine doneness of the halibut on the bbq, the fish should flake easily with a fork. Be sure to grill the halibut on the bbq over medium heat if using a gas grill. If using a charcoal grill, it is important that the foil packets be placed on an uncovered grill over medium heat.
